So far, so good

Well, the garden hasn't died yet! I think it is mainly due to the fact that Tyler has taken it upon himself to make sure that it is good and watered. Daddy had to show him once how to use the hose and then off he went to water. Such a good little helper already. Now, if only I could teach him to dust and clean toilets :)

Giving our green thumbs a try!

This weekend Chad and I decided to pretend we have green thumbs. Our good friends Dave and Angi recently moved to Texas so we took on the responsibility of transplanting a couple of their trees and vines from their house to ours. We also added one of our own and a dwarf lime tree. We removed some of the ice plant that goes down the side of the driveway and made our own little garden. Tyler loved spending the time outside helping rake, shovel, water, and play in the dirt! Now our goal is to not kill them!

Rules of a Toddler

My friend shared this with me. I am pretty sure it was written for Tyler ;)

If it is on, I must turn it off.
If it is off, I must turn it on.
If it is folded, I must unfold it.
If it is a liquid, it must be shaken, then spilled.
If it a solid, it must be crumbled, chewed or smeared.
If it is high, it must be reached.
If it is shelved, it must be removed.
If it is pointed, it must be run with at top speed.
If it has leaves, they must be picked.
If it is plugged, it must be unplugged.
If it is not trash, it must be thrown away.
If it is in the trash, it must be removed, inspected, and thrown on the floor.
If it is closed, it must be opened.
If it does not open, it must be screamed at.
If it has drawers, they must be rifled.
If it is a pencil, it must write on the refrigerator, monitor, or table.
If it is full, it will be more interesting emptied.
If it is empty, it will be more interesting full.
If it is a pile of dirt, it must be laid upon.
If it is stroller, it must under no circumstances be ridden in without protest. It must be pushed by me instead.
If it has a flat surface, it must be banged upon.
If Mommy's hands are full, I must be carried.
If Mommy is in a hurry and wants to carry me, I must walk alone.
If it is paper, it must be torn.
If it has buttons, they must be pressed.
If the volume is low, it must go high.
If it is toilet paper, it must be unrolled on the floor.
If it is a drawer, it must be pulled upon.
If it is a toothbrush, it must be inserted into my mouth.
If it has a faucet, it must be turned on at full force.
If it is a phone, I must talk to it.
If it is a bug, it must be swallowed.
If it doesn't stay on my spoon, it must be dropped on the floor.
If it is not food, it must be tasted.
If it IS food, it must not be tasted.
If it is a car seat, it must be protested with arched back.
If it is Mommy, it must be hugged.

Reading

Tyler loves to read already! What a little teacher's child :) He will go and grab a book and bring it to Chad or I. He has a new favorite book called Tickle Monster. It comes with four finger puppets and he thinks it is hilarious. He really likes Chad to read this book, he must perform a little better! I guess we should be thankful that at this point he has absolutely no interest in watching television but loves to listen to a story. On our recent visit to OR at Dox he actually sat down and listened to a story in the nursery. Might as well start them young! Here are some pics from a nightly reading of the Tickle Monster.

San Diego is on fire - literally

It is a scary day to live down here in San Diego. There are 8 fires burning and they are raging out of control due to the Santa Ana winds. Over 265,000 people have been evacuted and homes are burning to the ground. They say it is worse than the Cedar fires from 4 years ago. School was cancelled half way through today and is cancelled for tomorrow and most likely the remainder of the week. While Chad does like the unexpected break he hates the reason for it. His great aunt and uncle were evacuated last night and are not sure their home is still standing. This is predicted to be the worst fire in California's history. It is just so sad to see the images of countless homes burning to the ground. Pray for these people. As for now, we are safe just cooped up due to the large amounts of smoke and ash in the air. Tyler is a little stir crazy as this is the second day we haven't been outside but we are lucky that this is the worst of our scenarios. Here are some pictures.

More from Oregon

We had a great trip to Oregon. Tyler was a great little traveller and it was no problem at all to fly with him alone. I was a little worried since this is the first trip where he has been walking so I was scared on how long he would sit still but all in all he did great. It was amazing to meet little Emma also. Tyler loved seeing his great grandparents and grandparents and loved it when he could go chase the deer. I got to see some old friends from high school, walk on campus, see Auntie Donna and meet her great boyfriend Barry, eat some jerky from Emmons and of course, enjoy the Dream! Here are some pics!

Meeting sweet baby Emma

Tyler and I are up here in Oregon visiting with family and meeting baby Emma. She is so very tiny and so very sweet. I love being an aunt! Jenn is an absolutely wonderful mother already! Her and Pete are doing a wonderful job. Little Emma is growing great, already surpassing her birth weight and weighing in at 7 pounds, 9 oz. And on a side note, my sister-in-law Kayla welcomed a new baby sister born today at 6:38 am. Name is yet to be determined. Congrats!

A trip to the pumpkin patch

So here was a picture from last year at the pumpking patch -

This year was totally different! He pet the goats, ate some hay, fed the chickens, tried to eat the chicken food, went down the inflatable slide with mommy a gazillion times, ate some snow cone, climbed on the pumpkins, climbed on the hay, ate some more hay, ran back to pet the goats, rode the pony ride, rode the car ride, showed daddy all the pumpkins and then ate some more hay to finish the day up right! Needless to say he was exhausted and crashed within two minutes of being in the car! It was so much fun!!

He forgot his what?!?

So this afternoon Chad took Tyler to practice (he coaches water polo) which was really nice. Gave me some time to do some things around the house without having him tugging on me or worrying about him finding something else to climb to the top of. Anyway, he gets home from practice, drops of Tyler and goes surfing for an hour. He has to practice for his competition on Sunday. When he gets home we decide to go to Souplantation for dinner. We drive there and get out of the car only to find that he didn't wear or bring any shoes! Who the heck forgets to wear shoes!! Crazy guy. I ran to Kohl's and bought a pair of flip flops for $14 so we could go in to the restaurant and eat. I guess that is what I get for wanting to leave right when he gets home from surfing!

Tyler's one year appointment

Well, I went ahead and decided against the MMR vaccination for now. I spoke with the doc about it and she was really great in discussing it and the studies related to it. She gave me a sheet of different studies to check out and reassured me they do not use the thermisol (mercury agent) for storing the vaccinations. That being said, I will get him the shot but I am holding off until his 15 month or two year appointment. He is not in a daycare setting or any other situation right now that is cause for too much concern in passing disease. He still did get four shots (!) and blood taken. The blood draw was the worst because it is no longer a heel prick but a real needle into the vein. My poor baby :( He was so brave but it was so sad to have to hold him tight while he screamed. Once it was done though he was good to go and he only had a small bruise this morning. He weighed in at 21 pounds and was just over 30 inches tall! The doc said he was very verbal for a one year old (takes after his mommy :)).

I am an aunt!!

Emma Grace Kelley entered this world on September 27, 2007 (exactly one year and 10 days after Tyler!). She was 7 lbs 4 oz and 18 1/2 inches long. My sister was amazing and did a completely drug free natural child birth (you go girl!). I CANNOT wait to meet her on October 10th. Tyler can't wait until she can play with him :) Here are some pics that were sent to me.
